Nothing in the bowl!

Flushing things down the toilet can be a disaster for your pipes, as well as an environmental disaster. An abundant volume of various wastes are collected by sewage treatment plant services. Beyond the undesirable effects of clogged toilets, the ecological impacts and harmful effects for humans are numerous. Here is what you absolutely should not throw down your toilet.

Toilet paper rolls

Cardboard residues disintegrate very difficult in water and contaminate it. They disrupt the operation of water treatment plants. Although some are biodegradable, they should be thrown into the trash.

Personal hygiene items such as sanitary pads and tampons

These objects are made to absorb. They do not disintegrate in water and must be thrown in the trash to avoid clogging your pipes and wastewater treatment plant pumps.

These hygienic protections degrade as slowly as a plastic bag. In addition to this, they are equipped with toxic substances which are released into the water which the stations are unable to treat perfectly.

Wipes

Although some contain the word “biodegradable”, the wipes must always end up in the trash. Whether they are intimate wipes, baby wipes or even disinfectant wipes, they do not have time to dissolve and block the pipes. In addition, most are toxic to the environment and pollute ecosystems.

Medication

Medications cannot be recycled and cannot be flushed down the toilet. The molecules present in medicines do not disappear on contact with water. They are toxic to ecosystems by polluting groundwater. To dispose of medications, return them directly to your pharmacy.

Plastic materials such as condoms, contact lenses and chewing gum

The trash can is the only place where this type of waste should be. This is already a real scourge on earth because these products are difficult to recycle. Imagine what it is like at the aquatic level.

Cigarettes

Cigarettes are an ecological and health disaster. Because of their small size, cigarette butts are not stopped by the wastewater treatment plant screens and end up in nature. In addition to being composed of harmful substances, they are ingested by animals. So avoid throwing your cigarette butts into gutters, toilets, or simply on the ground.

Cooking oil

Water and oil do not mix. It is therefore not recommended to throw it in your toilet. It freezes and forms a blockage in the pipes. To eliminate it, simply wait for it to harden before throwing it in the household trash.

Cleaning products and bleach

All of these products are harmful to the environment. Choose to clean your home with natural products. Bleach is a powerful disinfectant that does not degrade naturally. It releases chlorine into nature.

Leftover food

First of all, leftover food could clog the pipes. Even liquid foods such as fats and broths could solidify and create blockages. In addition to this, they could attract rodents living in the sewers. Food is in the trash!

There are obviously many more objects not to throw down the toilet, we couldn't list them all! In order to avoid disastrous environmental consequences, health effects and consequences on the proper functioning of toilets, it is imperative to only throw paper intended for this use into the toilet bowl.
