GOING TO THE TOILETS IS A WORLDWIDE PRIVILEGE..
Did you know that...
two thirds of the population does not have access to our daily comfort?
It was mainly from the 1950s that paper became more democratic and became the essential object of our homes.
However, there are many hidden surprises behind this absolute comfort.
More than 50 million rolls of toilet paper are produced worldwide every day.
That's miles of paper, huh?
The consumption of toilet paper is not without consequences…
The global demand for toilet paper requires the felling of thousands of trees.
Every day, 27,000 trees are felled around the world for its manufacture.
Today, the unreasonable and irresponsible exploitation of forests has serious consequences for biodiversity.
Each person consumes an average of 100 rolls of paper per year, or 13 kg. It even goes up to 140 rolls in some countries! Doesn't that speak to you? It doesn't matter, let's try again.
You flush 384 trees down the toilet in your lifetime.
That's a lot, but that's not all...
15% of deforestation in the world is caused by toilet paper.
Water, which is a natural resource, is also overused for papermaking. It takes 500l of water to produce 1kg of toilet paper, that represents 168l of water per roll...
ANOTHER ASPECT
« WHAT ABOUT RECYCLED PAPERS ? »
It's controversial. Papermaking has evolved over the years. Some manufacturers use waste to limit the impact. However, the manufacturing process requires almost as much energy because it must undergo transformations similar to the process for treating wood chips.
In addition to this, some claims have even shown that recycled paper would not be safe for the skin because it mainly comes from office documents containing printing ink and therefore bisphenol.
So, do you still see the essential object of our toilets with the same eye?
Following this ecological disaster, we decided to intervene by allowing easy access to alternatives.
DID YOU KNOW THAT...
more than 400 million tons of plastic are produced each year in the world ?
That half is made for one-time use?
And that less than 10% of these plastic is recycled ?
Guess where this one ends up ?
Estimates show that between 19 and 23 million tons of plastic end up in lakes, rivers and oceans every year.
Yes… Every year !
If we do not act, these volumes could triple within twenty years... And the year 2040 is not that far away!
This pollution has disastrous consequences for marine and coastal species but also for human beings. Because yes, we ingest and breathe microplastics.
Estimates show that each of us ingests more than 50.000 plastic particles each year, not counting those that are in the air and are therefore inhaled.
We don't teach you anything. Single-use plastic, whether thrown away or burned, harms all ecosystems. Our health and the biodiversity are in danger.
IT'S TIME TO ACT !
