Toilet paper is undeniably an essential part of our home. We saw this clearly at the time of confinement when the store shelves were emptying. Yet we tend to overlook the importance of this purchase. The reasons ? Mainly the lack of knowledge of this essential object! The market offer being so wide, we no longer know what criteria to base our choices on!
So what are the components to consider?
First, try not to be tempted by colors and patterns. Indeed, the dyes and inks used are full of chemicals and endocrine disruptors. So try not to favor the aesthetic aspect of your toilet paper!
The same is true for perfumes. Moreover, it is almost impossible to know which substances are present in the papers because the manufacturers do not necessarily have to mention those used. A pleasant smell of Aloe Vera or even a floral atmosphere are therefore to be avoided.
Also, white papers tend to look cleaner. But what is hiding under this dazzling white? Chlorine-based chemicals and bleaches! However, there are chlorine-free bleached papers. For this, mentions such as "THC" or "bleached without chlorine" must appear on the packaging.
Focus on thickness. This allows you to save rolls and have stronger sheets. So favor solidity, which generally goes hand in hand with softness and comfort. Be careful not to use too much or you risk clogging your toilet. Thicker paper equals fewer sheets per use!
Opt for certified papers. In fact, even recycled paper can contain substances that are harmful to the skin. The majority of these come from office papers, which contain printing inks and therefore bisphenol. Not to mention that their production requires almost as much energy. If you want to buy recycled paper, which degrades more easily in water, you may see the mention "FSC" appear on the packaging, which certifies that the paper comes from forests that have been managed sustainably. Or the Ecolabel which certifies the non-toxicity of paper.
Use bamboo papers, which are a sustainable alternative to conventional paper. We let you browse our site to let you discover what is hidden behind bamboo.
These few tips will allow you not only to make your choice easier when making your selection, but also to pollute less!
